We had a great time at the Addiction show on Saturday night. We got to hang out with friends old and new, listened to three incredible writers share their work and were wowed by the harmonies and musical prowess of This Fair City.
Gayle Towell began the evening with an intense couple of chapters from her new novella, Blood Gravity. Keep an eye out for details on her upcoming book launch party in early October.Gayle will be reading her story Paper, from the Burnt Tongues Anthology on October 20, as part of Chuck Palahniuk’s Beautiful You tour at Third Place Books in Seattle. This is a ticketed event, so reserve your spot now.
Trevor Dodge followed Gayle with two pieces that made us laugh and curl up our fists.Trevor’s book, The Laws of Average, is sixty flash fiction pieces exploring relationships and all of the absurdities, triumphs and letdowns that come along with them.
Trevor will be teaching a flash fiction course at the Pacific Northwest College of the Arts starting on October 4th.
Then we were treated to a special acoustic set by Jason and Brandi from This Fair City, a local Portland band. Their harmonies alone set the place on fire.
This Fair City had just wrapped up recording their newest album earlier in the day, watch for it to be released by the new year. They also have a show coming up on Saturday, September 27th, at the Jade Lounge.
Our final performer was San Diego author Jim Ruland, who read an excerpt from his debut novel, Forest of Fortune. He read a possibly-probably-maybe autobiographical scene about a ghost-writer gone on an interview that went horribly right, and then sadly wrong.
We want to thank Wendy Peterson-Dodge for taking photos for the event. All photos in this post are by her. Speaking of, here are a few more for you!
